Sand Casting: Most Commonly Used Alloys & Benefits

Sand Casting: Most Commonly Used Alloys & Benefits

Sand casting, also called sand mold casting, is the process of metal casting in which molten metal alloys are poured into molds made of sand. It is deemed as one of the most economical procedures to fabricate nonferrous and ferrous parts.

There is an extensive range of materials that are used in sand-casting procedures like cupronickel, aluminum alloys and carbon. Following are the most commonly used alloys in sand casting along with their relative merits.

  1. Copper-nickel alloy: also called Cupronickel, these are specific grade copper-nickel alloys exhibiting specific properties and are often used to manufacture valuable products. The distinct physical and chemical characteristics of these alloys make them quite valued in the metal industry.

These alloys are resistant to crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen embrittlement and biofouling. Their thermal conductivity and ductility in cryogenic temperatures makes them further valuable.

  1. Stainless steel: this is a very popular alloy used in sand casting to serve a diversity of applications. Stainless steel offers numerous benefits like durability, strength, corrosion and wears resistance and amazing aesthetics. Whether you require a small quantity or mass replicas of a single prototype this alloy is deemed best to produce parts with very precise specifications.
  1. Brass bronze: since ages brass and bronze are considered the most valuable materials to produce tools, parts and finished products. Their exceptionally distinct properties make these metals highly coveted in current technology as well.
  1. Lead: it is an environment-friendly alternative for a wide range of parts. It does not contain lead but replaces it with bismuth thus making it a perfect green alternative for manufacturing a wide array of products. Besides its environmental benefits, it is also preferred for good machinability, excellent de-zincification corrosion resistance, and superior stress corrosion cracking resistance

At Gamma foundries, we are proud to offer our clients access to an extensive range of sand-casting services. With our cutting-edge technology, we use the most preferred materials to produce high-quality goods that are durable as well affordable for our clients.
